The highly anticipated second part of the Tokyo Revengers 2 movie, titled “Bloody Halloween Arc -Decisive Battle-“, has generated significant buzz this year. Following the success of the live-action adaptation of the popular Tokyo Revengers manga and anime series, this movie has become a massive hit in Japan and internationally.
The first part of Tokyo Revengers 2, titled “Bloody Halloween Arc -Fate-“, secured the second position at the box office. It earned an impressive 583 million yen during its opening weekend on April 21, 2023. Now, the second part of the live-action sequel, released on June 30, 2023, has shattered records once again, surpassing two other high-grossing films.
Premiering in 361 theaters across Japan on June 30, the third installment of the Tokyo Revengers live-action series, Tokyo Revengers 2, achieved remarkable success. It garnered a staggering 605,494,180 yen from 469,600 admissions during its initial three-day weekend. This 96-minute film emerged as the top-selling movie from June 30 to July 7, securing the number one spot at the Japanese box office.
Interestingly, on July 9, 2021, the first live-action movie adaptation of Ken Wakui’s Tokyo Revengers manga was released in Japan. It achieved a remarkable feat, earning an astounding 4.38 billion yen and becoming the highest-grossing live-action movie in Japan that year.
Additionally, the Super Mario Bros. Movie experienced a decline in the Japanese box office rankings, dropping from second to fourth place in its tenth weekend since its release on April 28, 2023. With a total of 8.84 million tickets sold, it earned 220,368,880 yen during its tenth weekend, accumulating a grand total of 12,636,300,430 yen.
Furthermore, on the same day as Tokyo Revengers 2, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Cosmos the Movie, the second installment of the two-part anime film series adapting Naoko Takeuchi’s original Sailor Moon manga’s “Shadow Galactica” arc, was released. It debuted at the ninth position and grossed a total of 75,698,090 yen from Friday to Sunday during its opening weekend.
