With the official launch of the Boruto Two Blue Vortex manga during the past weekend, fans witnessed a dynamic start to the series’ post-time-skip events. Astonishingly, the new arc has even managed to surpass the original series in the Manga PLUS rankings, despite having only one chapter available for reading at the moment.
While the original series has often been the subject of ridicule from various fan communities in the past, it appears that even the devoted fans are treating it similarly to how others did before. While there isn’t a noticeable surge of dislike towards the original series lately, the success of Boruto Two Blue Vortex speaks volumes.
In any case, this situation demonstrates that both long-time Naruto enthusiasts and those who began with the sequel series are eagerly anticipating the unfolding of the new arc. Furthermore, if Boruto Two Blue Vortex can maintain its popularity akin to its first chapter, fans might soon disregard the series’ initial offerings.
As of the time of writing this article, Boruto Two Blue Vortex ranks at number 9 on the Manga PLUS website, while the original series holds the 11th position. The former boasts nearly 280 thousand reads, while the latter has just over 266 thousand. Although the difference is relatively minor given the magnitude of the figures, a clear winner seems to emerge.
However, a major contributing factor to this outcome is the immense anticipation surrounding the Two Blue Vortex arc ever since the announcement of the series’ time-skip. While fans have eagerly awaited the debut of the new arc, social media has been abuzz with discussions about leaks for the upcoming arc and the Boruto series as a whole.
In defense of the original series, it hasn’t released a new chapter since April 2023, which explains its comparably lower viewership numbers in contrast to the arc. On the other hand, as the new arc secures its own page on Manga PLUS and other platforms, the viewership numbers for the original series will likely continue to dwindle in the coming months.
A potentially significant reason for the immediate success of the new arc lies in the fact that Naruto’s mangaka, Masashi Kishimoto, holds full control from a narrative perspective. This is further reinforced by the fact that numerous Naruto fans, who initially refrained from giving the sequel series a chance, started tuning in once Kishimoto joined the writing team of the original series.
