One doesn’t discuss a work at a beginning, as all of us who have consumed enough works know that expectations hurt badly and leave a bad aftertaste; thus, sometimes people wait for the work to get finished so that they can make a safe bet, as there is so much to read and so little time as we age. But then again, we are human beings and hope for things to be good, and thus taking a ride on an ongoing work is a rollercoaster which people shouldn’t miss. So here I am, to talk about My Blue Garnet, an adult yuri which shows great promise of being an unforgettable journey.
Inami Kon
We live in a society. Now what’s that mean?
That there are some rules, some standards, some expectations, which means for the people living in it to carry.
Despite human beings being unique from each other for having their own strengths and weaknesses, they are put on the same pedestal to be judged, and that creates minorities — those who are unable to live up to these standards and get crushed hard with self-deprecation.
The protagonist of this story, Inami Kon, falls into this very category—she is having trouble getting a stable job and fitting into society, but all that is going to change with her meeting Togami Ai by coincidence and falling in love with her.
Toyama Ai
Toyami Ai is a bartender who had nothing interesting in her life until she met a freelance writer named Kaede, with whom she got into a relationship. Ai had found something meaningful in her life with Kaede, but all of a sudden, Kaede disappears. Ai then gets to know that Kaede was a married woman who was cheating on her husband with Ai — for which Kaede’s husband wants to compensate Ai, which is unbearable to Ai. And thus, she is searching for Kaede, hoping it’s all a lie, and coincidentally meets Kon.
Review
In just 9 chapters, from the eyes of Kon and Ai, the manga sends you on a rollercoaster of how twisted yet beautiful love is. That either it makes you the strongest to face any hardship in your life, no matter how tough it is, or it can break you into a million pieces, making your life an abyss with no hope to come back. It’s pretty impressive to see the way the story unfolds and the way the author weaves the dynamics of Kon and Ai, which makes it a beautiful, heartbreaking read despite the fact that we are still in the beginning.
With the direction the story went, a reader can hope, or should I say become pretty confident, that it will be delivering even more strings to their hearts.
