Plot of Chainsaw Man Ch 133

The chapter opens up with a conversation between Denji and Yoshida while they observe the ‘protestors’. The term is revealed to refer to the group against Chainsaw Man. Protestors are shown to be protesting for strict actions to be taken by the safety commission against Chainsaw Man. On the other side, we see followers of the Chainsaw Man Church fighting off the Protestors. Yoshida reveals to Denji how Chainsaw Man’s popularity is bringing more and more followers to the Church which has now started to affect the youth which may lead to ‘Chainsaw Man Mania’ evolving further. Denji pays less attention to Yoshida and comments how he feels nice to have people liking him.

Yoshida later asks Denji to never transform into Chainsaw Man again and continue living a normal life, if he disagrees, the safety commission will kill Nayuta.

Denji replies the way we’d expect and ditches the offer expressing his desire to continue being the Chainsaw Man and thus chooses both options, i.e., Nayuta’s life and the choice of being Chainsaw Man.

He asks the Church followers to kill Yoshida while suddenly Nayuta appears to approach Denji. She appears to have been brough in by the Public Safety Commission people. Yoshida tries to reestablish the Safety Commission’s which is obviously disregarded by both Nayuta and Denji this time.

The chapter ends with Denji taking home Nayuta.

Review

Personally, this chapter does a fantastic job of setting up future pieces, further establishing Nayuta and Denji’s relationship and sets up the future events and unavoidable conflict with the Public Safety Commission.

We again get an insight on Denji’s feeling and how he feels towards his identity of Chainsaw Man. Denji wants to be loved and he feels that being Chainsaw Man is the only way people will care about him. We feel that this speaks greatly about Denji’s self worth and how he sees himself.

The choice Denji from Yoshida’s question basically presents itself as: the choice between Nayuta, someone who personally knows Denji and loves him personally for who he is, or choose those who have a parasocial relationship with him.

As for Yoshida’s character, we see him losing cool for the first time which may highlight how he does not want Nayuta to be killed but that is what his duty for now is. The conversation he carries also shows us how the Chainsaw Man Mania has started affecting youth and politics of the nation with many politicians slowly funding and contributing to the Church and may cause it to evolve into a larger conflict.

Over all, Fujimoto delivers another great piece of character writing which slowly but surely sets up plot points and developments for the future of the series. For the next chapter, I’d love to see more of Denji and Asa. Maybe we get Fami’s interaction with Asa while she’s in the hospital. Who knows? Gotta wait. The next chapter releases on June 28, 12 am Japanese time!
