Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 242 was expected to continue the battle between Takaba and Kenjaku, and while it delivered, the developments were fast and a bit ‘strange’ to say the least. The official translation is set to release on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 12 am JST in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 51.
In the previous chapter, a flashback showed Takaba’s journey to becoming a comedian and his perseverance when others gave up. Currently, Takaba recalls his purpose for becoming a comedian. With newfound confidence, he gets his Cursed technique to work again and prepares for a second showdown with Kenjaku.
Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 242 Summary:
According to the spoilers, Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 242 is titled “Foolish Survivor – Rise Up.”
The chapter starts with Kenjaku summoning a Special Grade Curse called “Akuro Ouohtake” against Takaba. However, Takaba destroys the curse by imagining a truck and becoming its driver. Takaba then imagines Kenjaku as a police officer accusing him of drunk driving and attempting to check his alcohol level.
The bag meant for breathing turns out to contain a dead goldfish. Takaba then turns both himself and Kenjaku into doctors trying to revive the fish, but they fail. Disheartened, Takaba turns Kenjaku into a nurse and scolds him.
They play rock, paper, and scissors, leading to a quiz show and eventually a door. Kenjaku realizes that Takaba’s Cursed Technique not only materializes his own imagination but can also read and materialize his opponent’s imagination. Takaba can even manipulate his opponent’s imagination during the fight.
As they rush towards the door, they hear a cat about to be hit by a car. Takaba tries to save the cat, which turns out to be Kenjaku, and gets hit by the car instead. They are then transported to the ocean, where Takaba runs over Kenjaku with a water scooter before engaging in a water fight like children.
Kenjaku realizes that Takaba is constantly manipulating his imagination but can’t stop it. He deduces that the only way to stop Takaba is to eliminate his affinity for comedy altogether. Determined to stop Takaba, Kenjaku suits up and challenges the comedian to a battle of humor on stage.
Chapter 242 spoilers don’t specify whether Takaba can manipulate or read thoughts, but it strongly implies it. According to the spoilers, mangaka Gege Akutami won’t take a break next week, and Chapter 243 will be released as scheduled in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 52.
