In the last chapter, Kenjaku got rid of two players in the Culling Game, including Iori Hazenoki. He revealed that he could track any Culling Game player using his Cursed Spirits and the marks he put on the Cursed objects that brought them to life. Takaba Fumihiko returned to face off against Kenjaku, but Kenjaku’s attack didn’t affect him.

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 240 brought us more of Kenjaku’s unusual battle against Takaba, and the spoilers we got today lived up to expectations. The official translation is set to come out on Monday, October 29, 2023, at 12 a.m. JST in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump issue 48.

In this chapter, titled “Foolish Survivor, Survive,” we start with a flashback where Angel advised Yuta, Hakari, and the others to attack Kenjaku before Gojo and Sukuna’s fight concluded. Even if they won against Sukuna, it would all be pointless if Kenjaku managed to merge the people of Japan with Tengen.

They realized that if they lost to Sukuna, they wouldn’t have the energy to fight Kenjaku’s henchmen. And if they did win against Sukuna, they’d be too worn out to take on Kenjaku. Kusakabe considered sending Maki to catch Kenjaku off guard, but didn’t want to weaken their attacking force. Angel suggested sending Takaba to fight Kenjaku.

Naturally, everyone was unsure about this plan. Angel stressed that what she was about to reveal should not be repeated, even to Takaba himself. She then unveiled Takaba’s Cursed technique, but the chapter shifted to the ongoing fight before we heard the name. On the battlefield, Takaba was unfazed by the centipede Curses that Kenjaku hurled his way.

He then somehow trapped Kenjaku in a bandana and a glass, obviously meant to be a joke. Kenjaku realized that Takaba’s Cursed Technique might be a way to bring his imagination to life. His extensive knowledge spanning thousands of years wouldn’t help him against Takaba, but Kenjaku reminded the comedian that every technique has a weak point.

Takaba and Kenjaku then got into a verbal exchange, mainly about how Takaba had won a comedy competition in his past. When Takaba found out that Kenjaku wanted to drive human evolution because it intrigued him, Takaba reached the odd conclusion that Kenjaku needed to laugh.

When he tried to make Kenjaku laugh, the Curse started to critique his jokes. Kenjaku realized that the key to Takaba’s technique was his confidence, which took a hit from the criticism. This allowed Kenjaku to land a blow on Takaba. Furious, Takaba proposed a game of “you lose when you Laugh.”

He made a funny face at Kenjaku, who responded by revealing his true self. This got a laugh out of Takaba, which let Kenjaku land a more serious hit on him. Takaba ended up near Hazenoki’s lifeless body and lost his confidence entirely. He began to question why he had chosen to be a comedian as Kenjaku advanced towards him.
