Netflix’s Tudum 2023 event had an exciting surprise for One Piece fans—a first glimpse of the upcoming Hollywood live-action series based on Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga. The teaser trailer, revealed during the event, announced that the series will premiere on August 31. You can watch the teaser on the official One Piece Netflix Twitter account.

Oda, the original creator of One Piece, is not only involved as an executive producer but also made it clear in May that the series would only be launched when he is completely satisfied with it. He emphasized that every entity involved in the production is working in sync. Oda also confirmed that the series will consist of eight episodes, contrary to the initial report of ten episodes.

Let’s take a look at the talented cast of the live-action series:

  • Inaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy
  • Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro
  • Emily Rudd as Nami
  • Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp
  • Taz Skylar as Sanji
  • Morgan Davies as Koby
  • Ilia Isorelýs Paulino as Alvida
  • Aidan Scott as Helmeppo
  • McKinley Belcher III as Arlong
  • Vincent Regan as Garp
  • Peter Gadiot as Shanks
  • Alexander Maniatis as Klahadore
  • Steven Ward as Mihawk
  • Craig Fairbrass as Chef Zeff
  • Langley Kirkwood as Captain Morgan
  • Celeste Loots as Kaya
  • Chioma Umeala as Nojiko
  • Colton Osorio as Young Monkey D. Luffy

Netflix has exclusive rights to stream the live-action series, which is being produced by Tomorrow Studios—a partnership between producer Marty Adelstein (known for Prison Break and Teen Wolf) and ITV Studios. Matt Owens, known for his work on Luke Cage and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., is the writer of the series. Steven Maeda and Becky Clements are serving as executive producers.

Back in 2017, Adelstein shared in a video message at Jump Festa that the live-action adaptation will begin with the East Blue arc and expand from there. He expressed his determination to create “a true One Piece” after discussing the project directly with Oda.
